Options Flow

Volume Scanner

A running session journal of unusual options contracts — filtered on volume against open interest, premium, days to expiry and distance from the money.

The problem

Ranking contracts by raw volume surfaces the same liquid names every day. It doesn't answer the question that matters: is this activity unusual, and is it opening new positions rather than closing old ones?

Answering that by hand means computing volume against open interest, checking how far the strike sits from spot, and watching the clock on expiry — for every candidate, all day.

What it does

The scanner watches the session continuously and records every contract that clears your thresholds. Each detection is timestamped and kept for the rest of the day, so a burst at 10:15 is still there when you look at 15:00.

The default preset targets the classic unusual-activity profile, and every threshold is adjustable.

  • Volume against open interest — above 1.5 means more contracts traded today than existed at the open.
  • Premium — a dollar floor, set higher for index ETFs than for single names.
  • Days to expiry — counted in trading days, so Friday to Monday is one day, not three.
  • Distance from the money — a signed percentage, so in-the-money contracts are excluded rather than mirrored.

The session journal

Detections don't vanish when conditions change. A contract that stops clearing your filters stays in the table, greyed with an 'exited' badge, its original detection time intact. If it qualifies again later it opens a new episode rather than overwriting the first.

Each row carries a directional read taken at the moment of detection and frozen there, so it doesn't flicker with every subsequent print.

Where to find it
